After the highly successful and critically acclaimed Delhi RealOps, VATIND is calling all pilots to gear up and start preparing to experience the magic of monsoon rain in India.Monsoon rain is here, and the weather has brought exciting new challenges with the promise of great experiences for the virtual aviator flying in India. During this monsoon season, pilots flying in and out of India can expect a bumpy approach, and with the added heavy rain and reduced visibility, it is an altogether different experience. This may make you feel that landing a heavy wide-body in a monsoon downpour can be a tricky job, but with the help of the friendly ATCs carefully watching and coordinating your every move, it’s not that hard to make a safe and smooth touchdown-and-taxi-out in the CAT-III ILS certified runways of the major Indian hubs. More is in store for the adventure-seeking pilots, who are invited to fly into the small regional airfields through mystic peaks and rain-showers with only a VOR guiding them onto finals during a visual approach.
Delhi Realops practically started off earlier than announced because the ATCs just could not resist the temptation to greet the rush of flights at Delhi even before 1030z. Soon it was busy all over the place with aircraft on ground, in-taxi and on air. The first wave during the first hour was full of new voices on the frequencies greeted by the friendly ATCs of VATIND. A brief respite after about an hour and half was over as soon as the event entered its second hour, with a great ensemble of aircraft in cruise, approach/descent and on ground moving happily tuned to the ATCs. The ATC frequencies remained busy throughout the event and ended with two aircraft flying to Mumbai handed over to Mumbai FIR.
VATIND wishes to thank everyone who participated, and hopes to see them quite often in VATIND

VATSIM and MITRE join forces
Posted Friday, December 21, 2007 20:50 EST
The Board of Governors are very pleased to announce that VATSIM and MITRE's Center for Advanced Aviation System Development (CAASD) have joined together to conduct aviation systems research using the VATSIM network as a test environment for proof of concept and hypothesis testing of new ATC solutions. In the near future VATSIM members will be asked to participate in CAASD designed events in an effort to evaluate new concepts in ATC operations.
This program is the direct result of the exacting standards required to fly and control on VATSIM and is a direct tribute to your tireless efforts to simulate as real as it gets. Today VATSIM leaves the world of purely a hobby and moves into the real world, making its contribution to future ATC systems and aviation safety.
Congratulations to all those members out there that have made the reputation VATSIM has built over the years as the serious simulation platform. Your hard work has been recognized.
